Enlisted 1st Battallion as Batman Valcartier 22-9-14 (18 years 1 mos.), lists service in Militia. On Nominal Roll 30th Wellington Regiment Camp London June 1913, E Coy. Mount Forest Confederate 20-8-14 reports "Off to War! Douglas Smith, part of the Mount Forest contingent." 5 foot 6 1/2 inches, blue eyes, red hair. Hospitalized 'dangerously ill' pneumonia 25-2-19.
