Trade listed as Farmer. DOB 13-12-77 (per 1891 and 1901 Census), born Oilsprings, Ontario. 5 foot 6 inches. Blue eyes, dark brown hair. Church of England. NOK Elizabeth Jane Grant, mother. Enlisted Mt Forest 26-11-15 (age 44 years 11 months). On 153rd Nominal Roll 5-2-16, no transfer noted. On 153rd Battalion Nominal Rolls as published Guelph Mercury 10-6-16 and 1-12-16. Embarked with 153rd Halifax N.S. SS Olympic 29-4-17. Arrived Liverpool 7-5-17. Assigned 25th Reserve for Training and Administration. Private Grant was having Separation Allowance sent to Helen Grant, wife, at Kingston, Ontario. (married Helen Lindsay 1-10-02, Frontenac, Kingston). Mount Forest Representative 24-4-18 reports: "There are only three from Mount Forest in this draft. Jack Smillie, Joe ODonnell, and myself. We are going to reinforce the 18th Batt. Sincerely yours,Jim Grant." 15-12-17 taken on Strength 18th Battalion. Near Arras suffered bullet wound right hand 27-8-18. Broken 4th metacarpal, slight disfigurement of small finger. Book "Memories of Mount Forest" by A.W. Wright reports "wounded." Globe & Mail Casualty List 7-9-18 reports "wounded." Returned to Canada aboard SS Aquitania, Halifax, N.S. 18-1-19. Demobilized London 14-2-19. Ontario Death Registry: died 6-11-28 Emo, Ontario. Cause of death: accidentally shot. Buried Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ontario
